We all know that there are four major processes in vehicle manufacturing, namely: stamping, welding, spraying and final assembly. According to the author's professional experience, the author believes that the power battery PACK also has four major processes. They are:

1) Assembly process;

2) Air tightness testing process;

3) Software flashing process;

4) Electrical performance testing process;

The following briefly introduces the four major manufacturing processes of power battery PACK.

1. Assembly process

Power battery PACK is generally composed of five systems.

How are these five systems assembled together to form a complete battery pack with reliable mechanical strength? It depends on the assembly process.

The assembly process of PACK is actually somewhat similar to the engine assembly process of traditional fuel vehicles.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

The five systems are connected together by connecting parts such as bolts, nuts, cable ties, clamps, and wire harness throwing nails to form an assembly.

2. Air tightness testing process

The power battery pack is generally installed under the seat of the new energy vehicle or under the trunk, and is in direct contact with the outside world. When high voltage electricity comes into contact with water, with common sense you can imagine the consequences. Therefore, when the new energy vehicle is wading in water, the battery pack needs to be well sealed.

The air tightness detection in the manufacturing process of power battery PACK is divided into two parts:

1) Air tightness detection at the thermal management system level;

2) PACK level air tightness detection;

The protection level system drafted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) stipulates that the power battery pack must reach the IP67 level.

At the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2017, SAIC Motor showed off its high-level air tightness protection technology. Put the whole PACK in the charged state into the goldfish tank for 7 days, the goldfish is intact, and no water has entered the PACK.

3. Software flashing process

A power battery pack without software is soulless.

Software flashing is also called software burning, or software filling.

The software flashing process is to flash the BMS control strategy into the CMU and BMU in the BMS in the form of code, so that the battery status information data collected during battery testing and use is processed and analyzed by the electronic control unit. Then, according to the analysis results, it sends out control commands to the relevant functional modules in the system, and finally transmits information to the outside world.

Fourth, the electrical performance testing process

The electrical performance testing process is a testing process that must be done after the above three processes are completed, that is, before the product is offline.

The electrical performance test is divided into three parts:

1) Static test:

Insulation detection, state of charge detection, fast and slow charging test, etc.;

2) Dynamic testing;

The evaluation of parameters such as power battery capacity, energy, and battery pack consistency is realized through a constant high current.

3) SOC adjustment;

Adjust the SOC of the battery pack to the factory SOC

SOC: StateOfCharge, commonly known as the remaining power of the battery.

Regarding the electrical performance testing parameters of the battery pack, each company actually has its own defined standards, which are different. However, the state has regulations on the electrical performance requirements of new energy vehicle power. The national standard is as follows:

"GB/T31484-2015 Cycle Life Requirements and Test Methods of Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles"

"GB/T31486-2015 Electrical Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles"

"GB/T31467.1-2015 Lithium-ion power battery packs and systems for electric vehicles - Part 1: Test procedures for high-power applications"

"GB/T31467.2-2015 Lithium-ion power battery packs and systems for electric vehicles - Part 2: Test procedures for high-energy applications"

"GB/T31467.3-2015 Lithium-ion power battery packs and systems for electric vehicles - Part 3: Safety requirements and test methods"

The above is an introduction to the four major processes of power battery PACK manufacturing.
